Copy File Manager data into Excel

We've shown in past tips how you can rearrange your file list to display more helpful information in the File Manager in TOTAL's Appraisal Desktop. Combined with an Advanced Search, you've got a powerful tool for sorting through your reports.

New to TOTAL is the ability to copy the file information you see in the File Manager and paste it into an Excel file. This is helpful in several ways.

As the example in the video shows, you need to get a list of all the jobs you've worked — and the number of hours — so you can apply for your license or certification with your state. Once you've add the "Hours Appraiser" field to the grid, run an Advanced Search for yourself as the appraiser, and get a list of all the appraisals you've done over a time period. Then, you can select, copy, and paste that data into Excel with the "Copy Grid Data" button. From there, tweak the data and layout to comply with your state's submission requirements. And that's just one example. It's a lot less time-intensive than creating and maintaining a spreadsheet from scratch — which is what most appraisers are used to doing.
